Search Functionality
Excellent Module!
A nice addition would be to add document search capabilities.
Ideally, the search should return a list of documents whose metadata and content match the search criteria.

Allow for document check-in/check out
Allow for a document to be checked-in or checked out by a user, preventing the document being change by other users.

Drop Document Library when view restricted to 1 folder
Selecting "Restrict Tree to One Folder" produces a tree with "Document Library" as the top folder, followed by the selected folder, like this:

enable emailing of document to folder
first off, this module rocks. Finally a module that does what it advertises without any fuss!! thanks much.
One improvement idea is a functional one which would perhaps allow a 'doc manager' role to email documents directly to a folder, it wouldn't have to be fancy, just basic doc properties... more

Let Users Add Custom Meta Data Fields to Attach to Document
I would like to be able to attach additional meta data fields to the file being uploaded. I need more than just a description field.

short download link
create a short download link option to allow creating a file link in any text/html box or email. i.e. http://mysite/dowload.aspx?fileID=2 - we currently do this with a redirector, it works but it causes a lot of errors in the event log

Multiple Root Folders per Portal
Allow multiple root folders per portal, at the module instance level you select what root to use for that module. This removes the need to next your folders (which may not be possible), i.e. have a UNC mapped to a remote FTP folder as one root and another mapped to local folder...

Override security on a per file basis
Although security can be set per folder, it would be fantastic if it could be set on a per file basis as well.

Expiration date for documents
I'd like to have an expiration date on documents.
Before that expiration date the document has to be reviewed or a new version has to be uploaded (and a new expiration date will be set).
When the expiration date passes the document won't be visible for ordinary users (only for admin).

Allow folder names to wrap on multiple lines
Currently, folder names in the tree are displayed on one line. My clients sometimes create long folder names, and I have to choose between keeping the tree pane at a fixed width (with horizontal scrolling) or allowing the tree pane to expand, often to impractical widths.

Roll over preview of document
I have a client that needs the ability to get a preview of the document (1st page only) as they browse the site. This may be as a roll-over or displayed when selected.

image upload or image choice from server
In the description field from the add/edit document possibilty to place image with upload from computer or choise from site (server)
Now you have to upload the image first ! or put a hyperlink from elsewhere... not friendly
